Deliciously crispy homemade mozzarella sticks, perfect for snacking or as an appetizer. Golden on the outside and gooey on the inside, these sticks will be a hit at any gathering!

  • Total Time: 40 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb mozzarella cheese, cut into sticks
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs (preferably Italian-seasoned)
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Oil for frying

Instructions

  1. Prepare the mozzarella sticks by cutting the cheese into uniform sticks, about 3 inches long.
  2. Set up a breading station with three shallow bowls: one with flour, one with beaten eggs, and one with breadcrumbs mixed with garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper.
  3. Coat each mozzarella stick in flour, shaking off the excess.
  4. Dip the floured stick into the beaten eggs, ensuring it is fully coated.
  5. Finally, roll the stick in the breadcrumb mixture, pressing gently to adhere the crumbs.
  6. Repeat the process with all mozzarella sticks.
  7. Place the breaded sticks in the freezer for at least 30 minutes to firm up (this helps prevent the cheese from oozing out while frying).
  8. Heat oil in a deep pan or fryer over medium-high heat (about 350°F or 175°C).
  9. Fry the mozzarella sticks in batches, cooking for about 2-3 minutes on each side until golden brown.
  10. Remove from the oil and drain on paper towels. Serve immediately with marinara sauce for dipping.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, you can add herbs or spices to the breadcrumb mixture.
  • To make them healthier, consider baking them at 400°F (200°C) for 15-20 minutes instead of frying.
  • These can be made ahead of time and frozen; just fry them directly from the freezer.
