Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb mozzarella cheese, cut into sticks
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup breadcrumbs (preferably Italian-seasoned)
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp onion powder
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Oil for frying
Instructions
- Prepare the mozzarella sticks by cutting the cheese into uniform sticks, about 3 inches long.
- Set up a breading station with three shallow bowls: one with flour, one with beaten eggs, and one with breadcrumbs mixed with garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper.
- Coat each mozzarella stick in flour, shaking off the excess.
- Dip the floured stick into the beaten eggs, ensuring it is fully coated.
- Finally, roll the stick in the breadcrumb mixture, pressing gently to adhere the crumbs.
- Repeat the process with all mozzarella sticks.
- Place the breaded sticks in the freezer for at least 30 minutes to firm up (this helps prevent the cheese from oozing out while frying).
- Heat oil in a deep pan or fryer over medium-high heat (about 350°F or 175°C).
- Fry the mozzarella sticks in batches, cooking for about 2-3 minutes on each side until golden brown.
- Remove from the oil and drain on paper towels. Serve immediately with marinara sauce for dipping.
Notes
- For extra flavor, you can add herbs or spices to the breadcrumb mixture.
- To make them healthier, consider baking them at 400°F (200°C) for 15-20 minutes instead of frying.
- These can be made ahead of time and frozen; just fry them directly from the freezer.
